Server Development Overview

Developing your own UA Server based on the OPC Foundation UA .NET API is easiest if you begin by customizing one of the existing quickstart applications: DA Server, HA Data Server, HA Events Server, or AC Server. However, we recommend using the Reference Server and will use it in the following tutorial.

This tutorial will guide you through creating a simple Server for data acquisition.

Assumptions

• Visual Studio .NET 2008, C#

• Some experience with .NET, C#, and OPC fundamentals.

Requirements

• All applications (Server and Client) require the OPC.UA.CertificateGenerator.exe utility to create a self-signed certificate upon first launch of the application.
  Download and install the local discovery server from www.opcfoundation.org/ua/lds

Steps:

• Step 1 - New Project

• Step 2 - Address Space Definition

• Step 3 - Reading Values and Updating the Nodes in the Address Space

• Step 4 - Handling Write Requests

• Step 5 - Testing Server

• Step 6 - Deploying Server
